Meet our teachers

‘DSM provides every child with a safe learning environment where their teachers truly understand their needs, and see them as the learners they are. Critical to our goal of creating confident global citizens and lifelong learners, we also focus heavily on holistic development – academically, socially and emotionally.’

Bernice Ressel

All of our teachers hold a master’s degree in primary and/or secondary education and are bilingual in German and English.

Our worldwide proven and tested immersion model provides a solid base for our bilingual education. A key feature of this model is the ‘one teacher-one language’ approach which means that all teachers communicate with the students exclusively in the teacher’s mother tongue.

Students gain knowledge of curricular subjects while simultaneously learning German (CLIL – content and language integrated learning).

Christina Remshardt

Deputy Principal - School Development
At Deutsche Schule Melbourne since: 2013

What I particularly like about our school:
"...is to see how quickly the students gain confidence in both languages with our bilingual model. It’s part of my role to further develop our successful bilingual immersion model at our school. I am excited to see the growth of the extra-curricular programs and I am particularly amazed when I receive feedback from our teachers, how impressively our students can switch between the two languages so easily."

It’s part of my role to maintain and develop a highly qualified and skilled teaching staff and to create an inspiring and nurturing environment for both, students and teachers. The students interact really well together both academically and socially with students from all different language backgrounds which is the true beauty of the school.’
